Studenttimes is looking for Network System Engineer for its office in Mississauga.

The Network Infrastructure team is responsible for but not limited to; all networking aspects for LAN, WAN, Load Balancing, Telephony and Firewall environments. The Network Infrastructure team is also responsible for Facility Infrastructure within the Co-Location Data Centers and Offices across Canada.

With a Service First focused environment network availability and performance is always top of mind for this role. The Network Engineer will be a strategic thinker and will work closely with IT associates as a technical resource on assigned projects.

Voice/Network Architecture

  • Promotes service offerings to grow infrastructure to meet business and technology needs
  • Works with System and Security teams in planning and designing of network infrastructure
  • Participate in client discussions during all phases of the development
  • Provides direction for Technology Operations teams on current and emerging technologies
  • Brings technical knowledge from external sources and incorporates those ideas into IT
  • Recommends technical standards that include future proposed standards that require long range planning
  • Provides recommendations for BCP and DR, updates and maintains plans for IT network and security
  • Works to raise the level of technical expertise in the IT organization
  • Documents procedures, processes, and operational tasks
  • Provides oral and written presentations and Visio documents on current and emerging technologies to educate key stakeholders on technical issues

Voice/Network Operations

  • Works towards harmonizing current and available technology to increase service levels and reduce downtime
  • Provides timely support, analysis and resolution of network team-related problems
  • Ensures timely delivery of technology solutions, which meet the quality, performance, service, and functional requirements of internal and external customers through accurate needs analysis, effective planning, and thorough testing
  • Contributes to the design, configuration, and maintenance of voice/data networks, security firewalls, and the operating systems running on these platforms
  • Contributes to the backup/recovery and disaster prevention/recovery of Cisco routers, switches, wireless controllers, and Palo Alto firewalls
  • Contributes to the operations and maintenance, including pro-active support, of hardware, software, network and communications systems
  • Contributes to the security of network and data resources


  • Prepares capacity plans for network, bandwidth utilization, security, and growth or change
  • Assists business units in technology planning
  • Prepares, or contributes to the preparation of plans and installations for networking equipment and firewalls
  • Evaluates current and emerging technologies and introduces technical solutions that address business and technical issues
  • Contributes to the Technology Road Map planning
  • Contributes to the IT operational plans and budgets for Technology Operations, as facilitated by the Manager
  • Contributes to the annual project planning requirements by providing estimates and plans for project estimating purposes


  • Participates as team member or work package leader on projects involving network, security, wireless and infrastructure
  • Contributes to the development and assignment of project budgets
  • Contributes to the planning, installation, and upgrade of network and security platforms
  • Contributes to network development project plans by determining routers, switches and firewall requirements


Minimum Education / Certifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business or Communications preferred Master’s degree is a plus
  • Technical certification(s) (CCNA, CCDA, CCNA Sec, CCNA Voice, CCNP Voice, ACE etc.) would be a definite asset.
  • Industry standard certifications in IS leadership
  • ITIL certification an advantage

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 or more years in large-scale network environments with working expert level knowledge of Data Center Network technologies
  • 4 or more years working on enterprise Cisco VoIP technologies.
  • Extensive experience with technology in a network/security environment.
  • Language Spoken: Hindi/Urdu

Technical Experience

  • Design, implementation, and maintenance of Cisco IP telephony servers, switches, routers, and gateways.
  • Work with telecommunications carriers for ordering, installation, and troubleshooting of voice and data circuits.
  • Knowledge of VoIP protocols including MGCP, SIP ,H323, QSIG, PRI/ISDN
  • Knowledge of Video Conferencing solutions including Polycom or Cisco an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Firewall technologies, methodologies and troubleshooting (Palo Alto Firewalls)
  • Knowledge and experience with CISCO technologies
  • Familiarity with network design (Servers, Firewalls, Protocols, Topologies), TCP/IP protocol suite, ARP, routing, VRF, switching, spanning-tree, network security, QoS, DHCP, DNS
  • Knowledge of routing protocols: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IGRP, RIP.
  • Proficiency in managing performance and upgrading network systems utilizing a variety of tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of load balancing technologies (F5 - LTM, GTM, APM)
  • Familiarity and taken part of CAB process
