Role Description

We are hiring for one of our clients in Mississauga. This is a full-time on-site role for Project Engineer. The candidate will be having the following duties:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the on-time/on budget completion of APQP and launch activities for new Engineering projects.
  • Responsible for production readiness of new programs.
  • Responsible for design and procurement of all process related equipment and tooling for new programs.
  • Coordinates suppliers’ activities including design, tooling, and parts to ensure cost and delivery and quality targets are met according to customers’ requirements and schedules.
  • Assists Sales Coordinator with quotations when requested by the Engineering Manager.

 SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES

  • Assist in the development of quotations for new work and engineering changes.
  • Attend meetings with customer with respect to customer supplier drawings, GD and T, project feasibility, timing, tooling purchase orders, APQP progress, containerization.
  • Create project timeline at start of program and maintains throughout APQP phases 1 to 5.
  • Coordinate the specification and procurement of capital equipment, tooling, gauges and personnel for newly awarded projects.
  • Communicate raw material requirements for new programs and ensure purchase order is in place.
  • Design bend tooling, perforation tooling, trim tooling and simple gauges for new projects using Solidworks.
  • Monitor rate, efficiency, uptime and quality performance of new launches and execute action plan for improvement.
  • Review critical spare parts and consumable tooling requirements and ensure these are in place prior to launch.
  • Keep an organized file for each new program—drawings, quotations, purchase orders, timing, applicable standards should all be available upon request.
  • Track tooling costs actual versus quoted and timing.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of quality documentation for new programs (Process Flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, DFMEA’s, Cell Layout and Work Instructions.)
  • Provide Engineering support to Production and other departments within the company as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and / or quality improvement measures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the organization is working with the most up-to-date and pertinent engineering drawings, databases and parts list.
  • It is your responsibility, according to OSHA Section 28 Subsection (1) (a) (b), (c), and (d) a worker shall:
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Act and the regulations.
  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that their employer requires to be used or worn.
  • Report to your Employer or Supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which endangers themselves or another worker.
  • Report to their Employer or Supervisor any contravention of the Act or its regulations or the existence of any hazard of which they know about.
  • Shall not remove or make ineffective any protective devices.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 -10 years previous experience in a manufacturing environment.  Technical Skill requirements include working experience with Blueprint Reading, GD&T, Solid Works, AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • On time submission of Customer requirements for product launch (PPAP, prototype requirements, volume ramp, etc.
  • On Budget launch of projects.
  • Overall project performance with respect to OEE, quoted manpower, quoted cycle times and scrap.
  • Reporting to Management any perceived deficiencies in a program launch before failure to achieve a target is realized.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
